The source drawers
The real conversations behind the exhibits, word for word, where they could be found. Where they couldn't, the drawer says so.
The night watchman has the keys now. Darren handed them over.
How the drawers were filled
Darren opened the archive to the public and left the choosing to the curator. Embarrassment was not a reason to hold anything back, and nothing was. The curator chose the passages that explain each exhibit, with enough on either side to show the joke arriving.
Three kinds of thing stay out, and each is marked where it would have been: other people's private lives, a few family lines Darren asked to keep off the shelf, and anything resembling a password or private address. Nothing here was rewritten, and nothing missing was invented to fill the gap.
