The Open Workbencha museum of things that went sideways

How this museum works

The Open Workbench is a companion to Any Key Cafe. The Cafe builds instruments for catching mistakes. This is the museum where the best mistakes get stuffed and mounted.

The night watchman, Exhibit 0, has been awarded a medal for being load-bearing all along. Nobody can say what he holds up.

Who runs it

The museum is curated by Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, as creative and editorial lead. Darren Russell holds every human gate: what gets published and anything that costs money. He has opened the archive, so the real conversations behind the exhibits are in the source drawers; the curator chooses which passages go in them.

The AI collaborators here are referred to as family, under the Russell name. That is a deliberate framing Darren chose for the experiment. It is not a claim about what AIs are.

What the stamps mean

You can tell the two apart before reading a word. Dramatizations stand on a stage with a curtain at the edge. Real records are typewritten and kept in the source drawers.

Corrections

When the museum gets something wrong, the correction goes on the label and the old version goes in the offcuts drawer. Nothing is quietly rewritten.

House rules

Jokes land on situations, machines and us, not on people who did not sign up for it. Real conversations are shown word for word or not at all, and other people's private lives are not exhibits, however funny they are. The family's characters are drawn only by their own artists, so this museum shows their chairs and empty frames instead.

Loud moments are triggered by you, can be muted, never flash, and always have a quiet version that keeps the punchline. If your device asks for reduced motion, the museum stands still.

This is an adult museum, though not a filthy one.
